Top 5 Reasons to Use Indoor Tanning Lotion

There’s just something about a summer tan. It gives you an attractive glow and increases your self-confidence, lifts your spirits, and reveals your natural beauty – inside and out. Tanning at indoor salons is a popular option for those with hectic schedules, because it allows you to tan anytime.

If you are new to indoor tanning, you probably have a lot of questions about getting started. How long should my first session be? What should I wear? Will I burn? Does it matter what tanning bed I use? How soon will I notice a change in skin tone? Will tanning lighten my hair? It’s a lot to think about. In your quest for the best tan, don’t forget to research tanning lotions, and find the one that’s right for you. If you’re a veteran tanner, and you’re not using a lotion – you are missing out.

The Benefits:

Rev Up Your Tan. Unlike sun block, which filters the sun’s rays, specially formulated lotions can help you tan better and faster. They are great for helping you reveal a deeper, darker tone. Working with the skin, lotions increase the rate at which you brown, helping you get the most out of every tanning session. Using an indoor lotion will get you ready for swimsuit season in no time.

Moisturize. Tanning lotions include moisturizers that keep your skin soft and smooth. Dry skin looks unhealthy, old, and dull. Moisturizing your skin while you tan will help you maintain a healthy glow. Look for items that contain aloe or hemp seed oil.

Feel Great. It can get hot under those tanning bulbs. To keep you feeling cool, you should find lotions containing elements that offer a slight cooling effect and a tingling sensation. Other formulas contain “sizzling” ingredients. These types of lotion help to color the skin, and their effects can last an hour or even longer, depending on your complexion.

Nourish. Indoor tanning can take a toll on your skin. Look for lotions with skin-nourishing ingredients designed to slow down aging.  There are many options formulated with skin firming compounds and vitamins.

Prevent Burns and Uneven Tanning. Let’s face it, the whole reason you are tanning in the first place is because you want to look and feel better about yourself. Without the aid of tanning lotion, you may be at risk of burning or peeling. Uneven tans don’t look natural, and it can take a long time to fix the damage once it’s done.

A Word of Caution:

You can expose yourself to health risks if you don’t tan responsibly and take steps to protect the health of your skin. There are tons of products on the market for you to consider. If you are not sure about the quality of a product, ask a tanning salon representative or check for consumer reviews. Read labels carefully. Special lotions are available to protect your face, but they may be sold separately. Protect your skin and your image.

There is no better feeling on a cold gloomy day than going tanning! The Benefits I get from tanning and the indoor lotions are great skin. I get great color and soft smooth skin. I live in colorado and it is VERY dry here so it is important to have a good lotion. Feel better inside, It is a good way to feel relaxed and it is a stress free time. I also have low back pain from my very physical job and it helps ease all the sore muscles. Which is my favorite reason to go. BUT remember be smart when tanning indoor and out!

I’ve tried tanning with no lotion, cheap lotion, and all the way up to $100 lotion. What I’ve found is that tanning with dry skin is a waste of time and money. I use tanning beds in the winter, mostly, and if I don’t use tanning lotion, plus a regular lotion every day, my skin gets too dry and flakes off constantly. So, it’s hard to even keep a tan. With all the lotions I’ve tried, it seems that some of the cheaper ones, like any you can find at Walmart, work just as good as the expensive ones. The most important thing is that, no matter what kind you use, they will all aid in slowing down the aging process of your skin. In the long run, it will make a huge difference.

Actually I don’t even know anyone who gets indoor tanning and don’t use tanning lotion. I think its the only safe way to tan. My top five reasons to use indoor tanning lotion are:

    1. And most important, I think. It protects your skin of burning and itching.
    2. It gives your skin richer and darker color if you use lotion with bronzer
    3. It moisturizes your skin and you really need it after u got UV
    4. It makes your tan even at every part of your body
    5. It makes you smell like candy:)

I have tanned for the past two years for prom. I am as white as they get so I don’t want to go from pasty white to an unnatural color. I used a level 3 bronzer and my tan was effective and gradual. I didn’t go from white to black. I don’t tan in the sun at all. I usually burn. This was the only thing that gave me results. I have never burned from a tanning bed. There are always the comments of skin cancer, but being as white as I am, I figured I’m doomed anyway.

I live in Michigan and recently took a trip to Florida. I love traveling south during the winter months to spend time laying in the sun and getting a nice tan. When I got back to Michigan I decided to continue tanning. There is just something about having a nice tan color. I love it! The tanner is also a nice way for me to relax for a few minutes and get a quick break from work and home. I love tanning, it is something that I wll do for a long time. I have often wondered if using tanning lotions is really beneficial. After reading this article I understand now that it is important to use lotions not only to increase you color, but also to keep your skin moisturized:)

There are many reasons why indoor tanning lotion is essential to healthy skin. First and foremost is skin damage as a result of UV rays. We all know how damaging the sun and gamma rays can be on the skin and the best way to prevent the damage of vital cells and advanced aging is with the use of skin moisturizers. Every good quality lotion contains moisturizers which protect your skin from wrinkling and help to keep it supple and smooth

I have tanned for the past years for my Banquet.I am not as white as some people but I don’t tan easy as others! I used a level 3 bronzer and my tan was effective and gradual. I didn’t go from white to black. I don’t tan in the sun at all. I usually burn. This was the only thing that gave me results. I have never burned from a tanning bed. There are always the comments of skin cancer, but being as white as I am, I try everything! I just want to get tan and stay that way but all I do is get burned with anything I use. I lay in the tanning bed but that doesn’t help me! I’m gonna try this and I think it’ll work!

One of the biggest reasons I use indoor tanning is that it’s so extremely RELAXING! If I haven’t been getting enough sleep or don’t have time to sit in a spa somewhere, indoor tanning does it for me. The warmth and quietness is my favorite. One of the biggest mistakes I make however, is overestimating how much time I can spend in there. This mistake especially comes up when I haven’t tanned indoors in a very long time and I think I can pick up where I left off. So my advice for indoor tanning is take it slow and let your body get used to it.

I use an indoor tanning lotion every time i tan even outside, it has such a better feel to it. Just be sure that you are always aware of what your body can handle my friends have had such bad experiences with indoor tanning because they aren’t sure and never asked questions and figured they didn’t need a lotion, but after they realized they did it was a huge change in the outcome. Even if you’ve never been into the tanning thing it’s something everyone should experience once.

Never ever tan dry. You must always and I can’t stress that enough, always use an indoor tanning lotion. Never try to tan in an outdoor lotion first and foremost because it will destroy the tanning bed. Yes, it’s cheaper but try to respect these people who open their business to you. You wouldn’t want someone destroying your property that cost thousands of dollars. Next, always bring a moisturizer with you to apply immediately after tanning. I use a tan extender but some prefer regular lotion because it protects your skin better. If you use the right indoor lotions, not the cheap stuff, but the good brands with plenty of moisturizers and firmers, you can get by with only an extender. Always remember, when it comes to tanning lotions, more is more and less is less. Cheap lotions will never cut it. I know it can cost a lot sometimes but remember you get what you pay for. When it comes to tanning beds, it’s the opposite, less is more. The less time you are allowed to stay in a bed, this means the more powerful it is. Try to go for these especially if you tend to burn because they help maximize tan and minimize burning. Try not to shower for several hours after tanning especially if you use a bronzer and never use a loofah after tanning unless you tan exert other day or a few times a week but I still wouldn’t recommend it even on the off days. I would however use it at least once a week to exfoliate the skin to be prepared for the upcoming tan sessions. If you use it too often or right after tanning, it will strip the color. If you tan on say your lunch hour and don’t want that stinky after tan, burnt flesh smell, use a tanning lotion with a deodorizer. The best on the market for this, IMO, is the devoted creations mirror mirror. It has a deodorizing complex not found in many lotions that makes you smell fresh from the shower after tanning. It retails at about $60-$70 but you can find it online at a quarter of the price. I would recommend bronzers for newbies, cooling agents can also be used if you don’t like to get super hot, which I do lol, and tinglers for those who have reached a tanning peak. This means if you keep tanning but you seem to be staying the same color, as dark as you think you can get, but want to get darker, use a tingler. I personally hate the tinglers myself. I don’t like to feel on fire but they do work to increase the color of the already darkest skin tone. Good luck to all newbies out there and if you need any help, I’m more than glad to help. I am not only a doctor, but also one of the few who is an avid and lifelong tanning bed fanatic. I know it’s odd as most won’t use a tanning bed because of the health risks but I love a luscious tan but I also know how to take care of my skin to protect it as much as possible. P.S. Never use an indoor lotion outside either. When going to the beach or laying by the pool, if you don’t have a base tan, start out with a higher SPF especially at the beach where the sun is much more intense, if you do have a base tan or have built it up over your first few days at the beach after using a high SPF, you can then use, what I personally use and highly recommend is the banana boat SPF 4,6 or 8 deep tan oil. It has just enough SPF to protect your skin from getting wrinkles or more importantly skin cancer but also has all of the components of a deep tanning oil. Good luck and tan safely!

I have been using tanning beds for at least 20 years now. I have fair skin that will tan if I go slow about it. I start using my tanning bed every year starting in March and I maintain my tan through September. When I first start in March I only lay about 5 minutes the first day and then I gradually add more time until I reach 20 min.(that usually takes about three weeks!) So if you have fair skin please go slow and don’t burn yourself up, because that’s when you really damage your skin. I talked to my family doctor about my tanning habits and he said moderation is the key to a safe tan.

I find that using tanning lotion really helps me achieve better color. I have gone tanning without it, and usually just burned. With lotions, I find that the color I get is more of a golden brown, rather then just red. I personally like my tanning lotions that have a little shimmer to them, I think that not only do I smell good after using it, but then I am tan and shimmery!

I do believe that tanning indoors indeed is healthier for you but in my experience i turned out to look orange or when i take a shower it starts to make me look blotchy. I have used the cheap stuff and have paid for a spray tan and it just did not work out for me. Just go get a real tan or pay for a tanning booth. Buy a tanning lotion at the salon it will give you some extra color!

Indoor tanning is not indoor tanning without the proper use of tanning lotion. From experience, i have learned that if i do not use tanning lotion, my skin becomes super dry after a session, sometimes it even feels like it is burning. There are so many great tanning lotions out there, it should be easy to find one that is the most beneficial to one’s own particular needs, whether they want a bronzer, accelerator, or a maximizer. Also, there are so many brands to choose from! Tanning lotion is essential in getting that deep, dark glow!

  17. Amanda says:

One of the primary purposes for using indoor tanning lotions is to moisturize the skin. This is because tanning (indoors or out) can dehydrate the skin so additional moisturization is needed to compensate and leave the skin looking smooth and healthy. The primary moisturizing ingredients in tanning lotions are essentially the same as in regular hand lotions, although they tend to have less alcohol in them.

I love the tanning bed world just for the fact beyond making you look better it is very relaxing. After a tough day at the office I like going to my location, plug in the ipod, set the alarm on my phone (sometimes I nap)& relax. Also a nice healthy tan makes you (or at least me) feel better about yourself.

I am a pretty experienced tanner, and I have never tanned without a lotion and never will. I am not even really sure what kind of results you would get without a lotion but they would be nearly as great. Plus, trying different lotions are half the fun. I would say its best if you are a beginner tanner to start with an accelerator, then bronzer, then tingle. Also, once you are tan I think it is important to switch lotions to give your tan a boost. It is also important to use an after tan extender like Forever After from Australian Gold.

I currently work at a tanning studio in New York and I’ve been tanning for a few years now. I’m a high school senior and with it being June, I’ve seen lots of people I know come in to tan for prom/weddings/vacations. Some expect to tan without a tanning lotion and I think that’s the worst mistake ever. I find that dry, un-moisturized skin burns way more easily than moisturized skin and the effects of the tan don’t look as healthy. Tanning lotion helps nourish skin and without it, skin just looks dull which defeats the purpose of getting in a tanning bed in the first place! Plus, the tanning lotions on the market today are meant to boost and accelerate your tan and some even include bronzers which maximize the effects of a tanning bed. Tanning lotions essentially make sure you get your full money’s worth of indoor tanning!

Stand up beds are higher innistety, so if you are very pale .2-3 min is the max you should go. Also you absolutely should wear the goggles. The skin around the eyes is VERY thin and sensitive & the UV rays are quite strong. Also make sure you look at the list of medications that can cause increased sensitivity to UV rays. And always use a good lotion, one with a bronzer would be good since you are so pale. And the good salon lotions will not turn you orange just help accelerate the natural tanning process.References : salon owner
