I currently work at a tanning studio in New York and I've been tanning for a few years now. I'm a high school senior and with it being June, I've seen lots of people I know come in to tan for prom/weddings/vacations. Some expect to tan without a tanning lotion and I think that's the worst mistake ever. I find that dry, un-moisturized skin burns way more easily than moisturized skin and the effects of the tan don't look as healthy. Tanning lotion helps nourish skin and without it, skin just looks dull which defeats the purpose of getting in a tanning bed in the first place! Plus, the tanning lotions on the market today are meant to boost and accelerate your tan and some even include bronzers which maximize the effects of a tanning bed. Tanning lotions essentially make sure you get your full money's worth of indoor tanning!

I am a pretty experienced tanner, and I have never tanned without a lotion and never will. I am not even really sure what kind of results you would get without a lotion but they would be nearly as great. Plus, trying different lotions are half the fun. I would say its best if you are a beginner tanner to start with an accelerator, then bronzer, then tingle. Also, once you are tan I think it is important to switch lotions to give your tan a boost. It is also important to use an after tan extender like Forever After from Australian Gold.

I love the tanning bed world just for the fact beyond making you look better it is very relaxing. After a tough day at the office I like going to my location, plug in the ipod, set the alarm on my phone (sometimes I nap)& relax. Also a nice healthy tan makes you (or at least me) feel better about yourself.

I ENJOY THE TIME THAT I TAKE TO USE A TANNING BED. JUST TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT THE WAY I LOOK AND THE RELAXING TIME I GIVE MYSELF. IT ALSO MAKES IT EASIER TO STAY IN THE SUN LONGER WHEN YOU HAVE A BASIC TAN. YOU WON'T BURN AS EASY . I LOVE BEING OUTSIDE IN THE BOAT OR ON THE WATER ,SO GETTING A LITTLE COLOR BEFORE THE SUMMER TIME GETS HERE IS GOOD. I DON'T TAN ALL YEAR AROUND. YOU DON'T LOOK NATURAL TO HAVE A TAN IN THE MID WINTER MONTHS. SO IF YOU START TANNING AORUND MARCH BY THE SUMMERTIME YOU SHOULD HAVE A BASIC TAN. EVEN THOUGH SOME TAN BETTER THAN OTHERS.

One of the primary purposes for using indoor tanning lotions is to moisturize the skin. This is because tanning (indoors or out) can dehydrate the skin so additional moisturization is needed to compensate and leave the skin looking smooth and healthy. The primary moisturizing ingredients in tanning lotions are essentially the same as in regular hand lotions, although they tend to have less alcohol in them.

Indoor tanning is not indoor tanning without the proper use of tanning lotion. From experience, i have learned that if i do not use tanning lotion, my skin becomes super dry after a session, sometimes it even feels like it is burning. There are so many great tanning lotions out there, it should be easy to find one that is the most beneficial to one's own particular needs, whether they want a bronzer, accelerator, or a maximizer. Also, there are so many brands to choose from! Tanning lotion is essential in getting that deep, dark glow!

I do believe that tanning indoors indeed is healthier for you but in my experience i turned out to look orange or when i take a shower it starts to make me look blotchy. I have used the cheap stuff and have paid for a spray tan and it just did not work out for me. Just go get a real tan or pay for a tanning booth. Buy a tanning lotion at the salon it will give you some extra color!

I find that using tanning lotion really helps me achieve better color. I have gone tanning without it, and usually just burned. With lotions, I find that the color I get is more of a golden brown, rather then just red. I personally like my tanning lotions that have a little shimmer to them, I think that not only do I smell good after using it, but then I am tan and shimmery!
